Kindergarten
Mrs.
Krueger
|
As Kindergarten looks forward to our trip to the pumpkin
farm and Halloween this month, we continue to work hard every day.
In Religion we are
learning about why WE are gifts from God. Students will realize that they are
each different and special because of the talents and feelings God has given
them. We will also discuss the important gift of family that God has blessed us
with.
We have mastered
letters C, O, and G, and have started Letterbook A. We will be moving onto
letters D and S during the month and will soon be blending our letter sounds so
we can begin reading words. We will also begin learning how to print our last
names.
We will start
working on numbers in Math this month. By the end of October we will be able to
count, read, recognize, represent and name examples of 0 through 5. We will be
introduced to ordinal numbers from first to fifth to show positions as well.
We
will discover plants and animals that live on land, and plants and animals that
live in water. We plan on going to the Science Lab to do an experiment with our
8th grade buddies this month.
We will kick off Social Studies by
comparing the city and the country, and brainstorming about transportation in
both areas. As the month goes on, we will learn about our planet, Earth, and its
characteristics. We will be using our globe to help identify land and water.
We also plan to do some fall
finger painting and make some boo-tiful Halloween crafts. We look forward to a
fun-filled and busy October!

Miss Pietruszynski |
Dear Fourth Grade Parents /
Guardians,
The Fourth grade students are off to a great school year! They have
been working really hard and learning new things everyday! Here are some of the
main concepts and topics we will be focusing on throughout the month of October:
Just a few reminders: The "Book It" reading
program started October 1. For the month of October, each student's goal is to
read 300 pages. Please keep track of the number of pages your child reads.
Tutoring begins on October 8, 2008 from 2:45 -3:15. If your child would like to
stay after school for tutoring he/she needs to bring a note from home.
On October 21, 2008, the fourth grade class will be leading the 8:30 mass.
Please come and join us and I hope to see you there!
Continue to practice the mutiplication facts from 0-12.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact the school office or send
a note with your child. Thanks for all of your ongoing support and cooperation!
Thanks,
Miss Pietruszynski

Happy Fall! October
brings many wonderful activities and events to fifth grade.
In Social Studies, we are working on our
exciting unit of Native Americans. We will learn about the cultures, traditions,
history, and the present day situations of the Native Americans of the
Southwest, Woodlands, Plains, and the West. As we study this unit we will be
learning through pictures, books, and hands-on craft activities. The students
always seem to enjoy the various projects we create in this unit.
As we move ahead with our grammar skills in
English, we will be working through the writing process to publish a personal
narrative. We will also continue to learn about verbs and their tenses.
In Math, we will be busy
multiplying and dividing whole numbers. Please keep practicing your basic
mutiplication and division facts as they are the basis of all math work this
year.
We will continue to grow
closer to God and Jesus as we begin to take a closer look at our seven
sacraments in Religion class. We will study the sacraments of Matrimony and Holy
Orders, the sacraments of service, this month. As many of you may know, I will
be celebrating the sacrament of Matrimony on October 25th. This will be a great
opportunity for the students to learn about and witness one of our seven
sacraments.
Just a reminder that
tutoring will be cancelled for Wednesday, October 22nd and October 29th.
Tutoring sessions will resume on Wednesday, November 5th.
I would like to wish everyone a Happy and Safe Halloween!

It's hard to believe it's October already. the seventh grade is
learning and reviewing many things. We are looking forward to another buddy
project with our first grade buddies. We are so excited to begin our computer
program as well.
In Math this month we are learning how to analyze data and to use
number patterns, fractions and percents. We enjoy doing Mind Jogger activities
and math games at the board.
In reading we are continuing to study both fiction and nonfiction
stories. Many of the stories we read are about children and we talk about how
their lives are similar to ours. The students well be completing a "sandwich"
book report this month.
In English we are discussing the various verb forms. We write
sentences with the different forms and work on the exercises in class. We will
also be studying modifiers.
In our spelling/vocabulary books we do Jeopardy questions,
spelling bees and sentences to review our vacabulary words, definitions as well
as synonyms and antonyms.
In the 6th grade our math topics for this month are statistics,
graphing data and adding and subtracting decimals. We discuss how statistics
relate to our every day lives.
In the 8th grade our math topics are proportions and percents. We
will also be doing statistics and analyzing data this month. We are reviewing
graphing on a coordinate plane and will create Halloween pictures using ordered
pairs.
In the 8th grade reading series we are studying fiction as well
as nonfiction. The students are learning about foreshadowing and flashbacks. the
students have a book jacket book report due at the end of this month.

Eighth Grade
Mrs.
Stein |
Science is keeping us on the go
this October. Our studies concern forces and motion. Arm wrestling contests will
demonstrate balanced and unbalanced forces. There will be running races and car
races. After measuring distance and time, we will calculate and graph speed and
acceleration. We will challenge gravitational acceleration by designing and
testing containers to protect eggs falling from great heights. There will be a
lot of work and a lot of thinking, but it should be fun.
In Social
Studies, we will examine the Western expansion and the Great Awakening. Trains,
cowboys, prospectors adn ghost towns! There are so many interesting things to
learn. Our class will be divided into groups for an independent study project.
This way we can do an in depth study of one area of our history and develop more
mature study habits at the same time. To strengthen our knowledge of geography,
we will be placing countries on blank maps of North and South America. Of
course, we will continue to research the presidential candidates and perepare
for our mock election.
Encouraged by our
first writing attempt, our personal narratives, we will continue to hone our
compostion skills in English. Initially we will examine each part of speech,
beginning with nouns and verbs. Then we will endeavor to craft
comparison/contrast essays.
Our Math classes
are intese to perpare us for high school entrance exams. Not only is there new
material to learn, but there is also review on concepts already taught. Reading
class has us examining the short story. There are so many elements to study:
plot, setting, characterization, and climax. We should be well prepared for
literature classes in high school.
Religion class
centers on preparation for Confirmation. We are doing service hours: being good
stewarts of time by helping our family, parish and community. Choosing our
Confirmation names is a big responsibility. We will be researching our saints.
The, at the end of October, we will dress as our saints and relate their lives
to the other students in our school.
Eight grade is
certainly a busy year, but we are loving every minute of it.
